Thurgood Marshall Summer Law Internship Program - Summer Internship Law Firm Must be at least 16 years old The Thurgood Marshall Summer Law Internship Program is an intensive paid program which places high-achieving inner-city high school students with legal employers for the summer, and provides them with additional programming before, during, and after the summer designed to help them prepare for a legal career. Students are selected to participate in the Program based upon personal interviews and demonstrated academic excellence. They are first nominated by their schools and then interviewed at the New York City Bar; this process consists of face-to-face meetings with the students and a written test that is administered to determine comfort with challenges common in an office environment. Job assignments in firms vary depending on the needs of the employer, but typically include assisting paralegals, filing, record keeping, assisting library and back-office personnel, data entry and document and exhibit organization. BlueStamp Engineering BlueStamp Engineering is a six-week, hands-on summer program where high school students build technology projects they’re passionate about. Each student selects their own projects and completes the program with 2 projects (which they keep). They also develop their own personal online portfolio that details their journey with videos, technical descriptions of their work, milestones, and blog postings. This personal portfolio can then be shared with colleges and prospective employers. Perry Outreach Program The Perry Outreach Program is a free, one-day, hands-on experience for high school women who are interested in pursuing careers in medicine and engineering. Joint Science Education Project (JSEP) JSEP is a three-week field experience in Greenland. Selected students from the U.S., Denmark and Greenland live and work together while exploring current Arctic research and completing their own inquiry-based projects. The program includes two weeks of extensive field experiences near Kangerlussuaq and a final week at Summit Station, the U.S. research facility located at the top of the Greenland ice sheet. Joint Antarctic School Expedition (JASE) JASE is a 1-2 week program that takes place in King George Island, Antarctica. Students from the United States join a Chilean high school expedition to Escudero Base on King George Island. The program includes visits to international research stations and field sites in Antarctica and to the Chilean Antarctic Institute in the Patagonia region of Chile. The Lucille Lortel Theatre's NYC Public High School Playwriting Fellowship An exciting NYC ten-minute play festival focused on encouraging and showcasing youth theatrical voices. Fully funded by the Lucille Lortel Theatre and in partnership with our Theatre Program, the contest culminates with an evening of staged readings with professional actors of these original student one-act plays. Fellows are mentored by professional playwrightsand directors as their plays receive a staged reading by professional actors in April 2021.
